Hi Mark in Hawaii (and the rest of my Social Network - I think that's what it is called!)
I've had a great day, feeling more than just a little proud to be British. I do love a wedding, so I've been in my element today though of course I wish my best friend, Tony, had been here to share it with me. I enjoyed looking at the wonderful dresses, and I reminisced about the bridal gowns that I had created in my twenties and thirties.
I also found time to wander round my garden in the sunshine, checking to see how many of Tony's Buddleja are going to survive our exceptionally cold winter. Reg has done a grand job pruning them so carefully, and quite a few are sending out new basal shoots.
I also checked the state of the decimated Lavender hedge, which was protected a bit, being on the south side of the brick-faced flood wall. Probably half have evidence of just a few green shoots, so 2011 will, of necessity, be the year to replace them all; something I've put off doing due to the enormous expense. However, the bees are so important to me that it must be achieved, and I shall attempt to take cuttings this coming week. Tony grew the Lavender plants that we had in tubs especially for our Golden Wedding celebrations, so I will also try sowing some of last year's seeds that I collected to use in a potpourri.
The excellent variety that we had on the edge of the kitchen decking are almost completely destroyed so I am going to buy ten of the Hidcote variety to replace them. A local friend has told me about some plants that are on offer in the Telegraph, so I shall try them.
I'm going to try to write on this blog more regularly, even if it's just a sentence a day. Perhaps you could all help a bit by leaving some comments. Feedback is a stimulant.
My four new guests are now settling down for the night, so I will say farewell for now too, love Mum
