On the 4th of July 2001, Tony and I witnessed the packing up of our third and last home in Crawley "New Town" into a couple of furniture removal vehicles. We then spent a couple of enjoyable twilight hours in the garden of our neighbours before we set of towards the M 11 and an overnight stop in one of the Travel Lodges. We woke at 5 am and decided to set off early for Lincolnshire, so that we could prepare some breakfast for the lads who were transporting our "treasures".
I recall that the weather on that 5th of July was just as hot as it was today, so in between making fried egg sandwiches, I rested in the shade of the apple tree, just I have done today.
Barbara - You and Tony have made Kirkstead Cottage a wonderful place with fond memories for you and your family but for others too. It was some 31 years ago; pretty much the same week in July that Dan and I came down that driveway towards the cottage. For me the first time at the cottage. I remember they still had irrigation pipes going across the road. We had to be oh so careful driving over the ramps over the irrigation pipes. It so amazing to see the transformation of the cottage and the gardens over the years. Remembering Tony and Barbara - your special touch on things will always keep Kirkstead a fond memory. Donnie
